One of the best ways to get kids to try new foods is to let them be involved in the process - like cooking. Kids of all ages can do tasks in the kitchen. One of the best recipes to make with young kids is a smoothie since it's always fun for a child to help use a vitamix, blender or food processor.... (Of course, please watch your children when they are pushing the buttons to prevent any injuries.)
As many fruits start to go out of season, consider using frozen fruits. It's a great way to add variety and nutrition to your child's diet while providing foods with the most nutrients.
makes 2 servings
1/2 c frozen blueberries
1/3 c frozen strawberries
1/3 c goat milk yogurt or plain low fat yogurt
1 T orange juice
1/2 T maple syrup
4 ice cubes
Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix until completely combined (about 45 seconds).
Pour into a fun cup and let your child select his or her straw. Try substituting other fruits and even vegetables. Again, let your child be involved in the process of choosing the fruits or vegetables to maximize chances they will try it.
This smoothie is packed with calcium, potassium, Vitamin C and more and makes a great breakfast or snack!
